Local fashions hit the runway last week during the annual Fall Style Show & Dinner hosted by Freestone Cancer Support Group (FCSG) at The Depot X in Fairfield, Texas.

The venue was beautifully decorated by Creations Flowers & Gifts.

Chef Kenny Bulger made his signature Poppy Seed Chicken Casserole for the night’s entrée, which was accompanied by salad, bread sticks, and a gooey, yummy dessert.

Emcee for the evening was radio personality, Buzz Russell.

Recognized, for organizing the event, were FCSG members Diana Lewis, Jeanette Cornett, and Janet Bulger. “The rest of us just show up, and they tell us what to do,” said Bettye Trask, who gave the invocation.

This fundraiser has full support of the entire community.

So many door prizes were donated that each of the nearly twenty tables had several winning ticket holders.

One room was lined with items donated for the Silent Auction; the other room was lined with vendors, who gave a percentage of their sales toward the cause.

According to Diana Lewis, the group has given away $172,650 to date, helping 157 cancer patients with travel expenses in order to receive treatment.

As Freestone County does not offer cancer treatment, every patient has to travel to receive life-saving procedures.

Lewis was proud to announce the attendance of two special guests from Shelby and Panola counties, who are currently working to start a similar organization in their area.

Along with the cancer support groups in Freestone and Limestone counties, “We just have 250 counties to go,” remarked Lewis.

At the end of the evening, Emcee Russell gave a good report on his granddaughter, Lexie Neptune, who had just completed two surgeries for a brain tumor. “Her pituitary gland and optic nerve is still intact, and doctors say recovery will take about a week,” he said.

Following the style show with the sponsor pieces and jewelry specially made for them such as the aries necklace, both cancer survivors and their caregivers were recognized, as well as members of Freestone Cancer Support Group.

This year’s Diamond sponsors were Community National Bank & Trust, and NRG Energy. Gold sponsors were Carter Enterprises (Pizza Hut and Texas Burger / Subway) and Ridge Creek Services, LLC.

Fashions were modeled by Juls by Jul, Peacocks and Ponies, Merle Norman Boutique, Maggie Grace Boutique, G-Bar Western Flair Boutique, LaDonna’s, Brenda’s Closet, and Texas Outfitters Emporium.
