Representatives of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5872 of Fairfield recently carried canned goods to the District 29 meeting in the City of West, Texas.
These food items were donated to the Veterans One Stop Center in Waco for distribution to needy veterans. As the name suggests, the Veterans One Stop Center seeks to address all issues that plague needy veterans and the donations from the Fairfield VFW Post and from other Posts in the area assist in that effort.
Counseling, job search assistance, application for veterans’ benefits, and food packages are some of the services provided.
Roger Brooke, the Commander of the VFW Post in Fairfield noted that the stressful nature of military service in general, and of combat service in particular, cause many young veterans to experience adjustment problems long after they return to civilian life.
Commander Brooke added “We appreciate the sacrifice that all veterans made to keep our country free and we are honored to help veterans of District 29 through our canned goods donation as well as our many means of direct support to veterans in the Fairfield and Freestone County area.”
