Fairfield Veterinary Hospital welcomes Dr. Mackenzie Mackey to the staff. She joins Dr. James Roush and Dr. Doug Sanford.
Dr. Mackey attended Texas A&M University from 2013 to 2021 where she completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine with a focus in production medicine and reproduction. Her professional interests include cattle, small ruminants, equine, and wildlife.
Dr. Mackey grew up in Sequin, Texas, where she was involved with showing steers, heifers, and lambs and competing on the County 4-H horse and livestock judging teams. During her undergraduate years she continued judging at Texas A&M and was a part of the 2014-2016 teams. She also served as an officer in the Horsemen’s Association, Saddle and Sirloin Club, and other organizations. In the School of Veterinary Medicine she was an officer for the student chapters of the Bovine Practitioners, Equine Practitioners, and Small Ruminant Practitioners.
She fell in love with Fairfield after doing multiple externships at Fairfield Veterinary Hospital throughout her vet school career and is thrilled to be officially joining the team. Her goal is to provide large and small animal care to Freestone and surrounding counties and will do ambulatory calls with her mobile veterinary unit. She also plans on supporting the local 4-H and FFA chapters in any way that she can. A lot of her success has been due to these organizations.
Mackenzie and her husband, Sean, live in Streetman with their two dogs, Luna and Cedar, and 10 head of Brangus and Angus cows. She enjoys antiquing on the weekends, hunting, fishing, reading romance novels and painting.
