Beginning in April, Fairfield Market Days will be under new management, as voted on by Fairfield City Council at the March 13, 2018 meeting.

Following the resignation of former Market Days Coordinator, Darlene Jones, in January of this year, City of Fairfield reviewed two proposals from interested parties to take over these duties.

A unanimous vote by council members will allow both parties a one-year trial to test out their strategies.

One of the major changes, agreed upon by all involved, is the change of the event date from the fourth weekend of each month to the third weekend. This will allow vendors who travel the circuit to attend Fairfield’s event.

Partners David Fairley and David Butler will remain at the Freestone County Fairgrounds, utilizing the grounds, pavilions, campsites, and the ‘Green Barn’ for vendor booths.

They will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday through Sunday; and vendors of all types will be allowed.

Fairfield business owner, Amy Ralston, will offer a Saturday-only event on the Courthouse Square.

Her plans are to involve the entire community; including churches, businesses, non-profits, and fundraisers.

“We need to get back to the basics and start to rebuild our vendor base,” she explains. “As we grow, we can expand as needed. I’m hoping the City will begin to see a profit soon. I want to see Fairfield thrive again and to make it a fun destination that draws people to town.”

The City is currently drafting contracts, which are expected to be signed in the near future.

It’s important to note that March’s Fairfield Market Days will remain on the fourth weekend.
