Sometimes we need to take a glance backward and a glimpse forward. This week, we at the Fairfield Library are doing just that.
You might have noticed a new smiling fact at the counter in the library. The Fairfield Library welcomed Jessica Jones to the family. She began on a part time basis and is now a full time addition to the staff. Jessica is a talented singer, plays guitar, piano, and loves to hunt and fish. In fact, a few years ago she had the best buck at the Freestone Game Management Assoc. Jessica loves her new job and is doing it very well. If you haven’t been in to meet her, please stop by and greet this special young woman.
We were blessed by our giving community in October with donations from Incommons Bank ($150), NRG’s Limestone Project Employees’ Fund ($500), NRG via Vanguard Charitable grant ($2500), and a special donation from a wonderful patron/volunteer ($300). Most of the giving was for our children programming and has already been put to work for the Pumpkin Painting Contest and our weekly Story Times. Words don’t express how grateful we are for the generosity of local businesses and people of Freestone County.
Book signings and promotions by local authors have been a recent feature at the Fairfield Library. July we welcomed Bert Lindsay, author of westerns Quick Tender and Razor Sharp. In August we had Mackenzie Wooten and Felicia Thompson, author and illustrator of Are There Animals In Heaven? followed by Linda Upton showcasing her books, Beauty From Ashes and Brick By Brick.
In October Trinity Star Arts Council (TSAC) hosted a Tea with guest author Marsha Diane Arnold. TSAC donated four books to the library (two copies of Galapagos Girl and two copies of The Pumpkin Runner).
A busy October also included a special evening event with the FF Lake State Park, “Night Time Sounds.” Weekly Story Time readings and crafts culminated in a special Pumpkin Painting story time on the evening of October 29, featuring the Rangers Dan and Kris from the Fairfield Lake State Park. The final Story Time in October featured Halloween activities.
We want to give a special thanks to our judges for the Pumpkin Painting Contest: Mary Small, Amy Evans, and Sheriff Jeremy Shipley. Winners Caleb T. (First Place), Brynleigh Escobar (Second Place) and Isaac Richard (Third place) were announced at Boo on the Square on Facebook Live from the FF Lake State Park’s FB page.
Everyone did a great job and we had a blast! Thank you to everyone that participated. We would love to display the pumpkins for the next week. If you’d like to pick your pumpkin up, please stop by the library during the next week. You can see a photo of the winning entries at the library’s Facebook page.
Story Time on Nov 13 will feature FF Lake State Park Ranger Dan who will be reading How to Catch a Turkey. There will be no Story Time on November 27 in observance of Thanksgiving. The library will be closed on Thursday, Nov 28 and Friday, Nov 29.
Remember to check out the Fairfield Library page (Facebook.com/FairfieldTXLibrary) every week for fun-filled photos of the weekly Story Time, see what events are coming up, and visit our website for additional information and latest updates (https://www.fairfieldtxlibrary.org/).
