A special section will showcase photographs of the Fairfield Lake State Park for this year’s Home & Garden Show at the Freestone County Fair & Rodeo in June.
Fairfield Lake State Park has been a treasured local attraction for 50 years, hosting an average of 80,000 visitors a year. It was acquired by Texas Parks & Wildlife in 1971 by lease from Texas Utilities and opened to the public in 1976.
Named after 2,400-acre Fairfield Lake, the state park was known for activities such as horseback riding, family reunions, paddling, fishing, camping and hiking.
The park’s permanent closure this summer comes as current landowner Vistra terminated their lease with the TPWD pending final sale to Todd Interests of 5,000 acres surrounding the lake. A private, gated lakefront community is being planned, with multi-million-dollar vacation homes and exclusive access to the lake.
The special photography showcase will allow park lovers to celebrate generations of memories.
These photos will not be judged and may be from any period of time. There will not be a fee for these photos.
Photography and other artwork entered in the Home & Garden Show must be adhered to a piece of black poster board with a 1-inch border.
Fairfield Library has poster boards, entrant labels and materials to help you prepare your entries. These materials have been donated by Hometown Pharmacy.
Black poster board is also available at the Dollar Tree in Fairfield.
