The Fairfield Eagles completed the Fairfield Invitational Basketball Tournament with a win in four games in the pool play tournament. There were only five boys’ teams entered in the weekend tournament, but the excitement was on full display in the round robin format.
Waco Connally finished second over the weekend with a 47-38 win over Fairfield, a 54-32 win over Grapeland and a loss to Azle 46-43.
Grapeland split the weekend with wins over Fairfield and Azle. The win over the Azle Hornets was perhaps the most exciting game of the weekend. Azle took the game to overtime and Gilmore scored 15 of his game high 20 points in the fourth quarter and overtime. It was almost matched by Crow of Azle, who scored 13 of his 15 in the fourth quarter and overtime.
Magnolia swept the weekend with four wins to claim the tournament title. They defeated Fairfield 56-50, Azle 66-39, and Connally 55-47.
The Eagles defeated Azle 56-52 behind a game high 22 points by Pierre Algood. Losses to Grapeland, Connally and Magnolia put the Eagles a 1-3 in tournament play and will enter district play next week.
