The many successes of this year’s Fairfield Eagle athletes were recognized and celebrated during the FHS Athletic banquet on Thursday, May 16, 2024.
The athletic teams and individuals were amazing this year. Their accomplishments include:
–Every Team Reached the playoffs!
–7 District Championships
–8 Playoff Wins
–20 Area Qualifiers (Track)
–52 Regional Qualifiers (XC, PL, Track, Golf)
–1 Regional Champion Teams (PL), 2nd Place Girls Track, 3rd Boys PL
–20 State Qualifier: an individual State Champ in PL; State Champ back-to-back in the 4×200; 4th place finish in 100, 6th place finish in TJ
–10 Superlative Awards in District
–17 All-District Selections
–21 2nd Team All-District Selections
–13 Super Centex Selections
–7 All-State Selections
–75 Academic All-District Selections
–15 Academic All-State Selections
–9 kids selected to play in the FCA All-Star Games
–6 student athletes continuing education playing sports
Special year-end awards were also presented to (l-r): Colin Glass – Most Outstanding Award; Kohl Collins and Conner Colvert – Most Improved Athlete; and Rowdy Hand – Fighting Heart.
Thank you to the Fairfield Booster club for hosting the event: Cody Roller – President, Becca Thaler – Vice-President, Brian Whitaker – Treasurer, Marion Combs – Secretary, and Emily Beaver – Reporter. This year, the Booster Club purchased $43,350 worth of equipment for the Athletic Program and awarded $6,750 in scholarships.
Thank you to School Board members, Kim Whitaker, Ashley Daniel, Eric Chavers, John Fryer, Keving Benedict, Jeff Wright, and Penny Meredith, as well as District Superintendent Joe Craig. “They are first class.”
Thank you also to the churches in Fairfield for all they do to help our kids. “It take a VILLAGE to raise them and ya’ll do a great job of loving on them!” 1st United Methodist, First Baptist – Fairfield, River of Life, Fairfield Church of Christ, Calvary Baptist, FF #1 Church of God in Christ, and Round Prairie Baptist.
Lastly, the special awards are picked by the Coaches, who vote for the overall MVP, a Most Improved Athlete, and the Heart Award. “Sometimes the person that wins the award is picked on the first try. That person stands out in the Coaches’ minds. And sometimes we have to keep voting to get a winner.”
Here are this year’s recipients:
–Most Outstanding Athlete award was presented to Eagle Colin Glass and Lady Eagle Avery Thaler.
–Fighting Heart award was presented to Eagle Rowdy Hand and Lady Eagles Madox Mitchael and Zadie McPherson.
Most Improve Athlete award was presented to Eagles Kohl Collins and Conner Colvert and Lady Eagles Zada Pjetrovic.
