The Fairfield Eagles pushed out to a 32-0 lead and never looked back in a dominating road win over the Robinson Rockets 46-13 on Friday.
The Eagles have won their last three games and are in a secure position for a playoff spot and can lock one down with a home win over Salado on Friday night. Robinson and Waco Conally will face off in a huge game in the district to determine the other positions.
Fairfield had the first big play and it began with their defense. Blake Posey picked off a Jordan Rogers pass to stop the Rockets on their first possession to the Robinson 33-yard line. The backfield belongs to JaShaughn Hatcher and he ripped off a 29-yard touchdown run with 8:41 remaining in the opening quarter. Kadarius Walker added the conversion run for the early 8-0 lead.
The Eagle defense smothered the Rockets and got the ball back quickly and quickly made points. With 6:44 to go, Hatcher scored on a one-yard run and added the conversion for the 16-0 advantage.
Fairfield could not be penetrated on defense and the offense took full advantage on a Jar-Mychal Hudson 28-yard touchdown run. Kameron Ransom added the conversion run and the Eagles had a commanding 24-0 with just under four minutes to go in the first quarter.
Midway through the second quarter, Chad Rushin went to the air for Fairfield points. He found Posey for the 13-yard touchdown run and then passed to Ransom for the conversion and the Rockets trailed 32-0.
The Eagle offense had their first miscue of the night with two minutes to go in the first half and the Rockets were able to turn it into points. Jace Walker caught a four-yard touchdown pass from Rogers with 1:40 remaining and the Eagles had a 32-6 lead.
Robinson had one more drive, but the Eagle defense stopped the Rockets to hold a 32-6 halftime lead. Dylon Rushin intercepted the Rogers pass inside the five-yard line and the teams went to the locker room.
Robinson took their first possession of the second half to make things interesting for the moment. Ethan Linder finished the quick drive with an 11-yard run with 11:12 to go in the third to close the gap to 32-13.
Fairfield would add two more touchdown runs before the end of the third quarter. Rushin had a one-yard run and Hatcher added another touchdown on a 36-yard run and had 46 points on the board before the end of the third quarter.
The Fairfield Eagles could finish as high as the second-place team in District 8-4A Division II. Lorena leads the district race and the Eagles could be second with a home win against Salado. Conally and Robinson face off for third and fourth with Salado figuring in the mix with a win over Fairfield. All of this will be figured out as the teams kick off the final week of the regular season.
