Purchasing two new lawn mowers for the Public Works Department is Fairfield City Council, who approved this item during the Tuesday, October 9, 2018 meeting.
Director of Public Works, Clyde Woods, and various council members test drove a few different mowers prior to this meeting, and at Woods’ recommendation, the City will be purchasing two Gravely Pro-Turn 460 mowers, which will arrive just in time for the spring mowing season.
Councilman Keith Daniels made a motion for approval, Councilman Jason Bosley made a second, and Councilman James Tyus voted in favor of approval. Both Councilmen Landis Bayless and Randy Johnson abstained from voting as each work for businesses that sell large lawn mowers.
Also presented to the Council were requests from the Fairfield Cub Scouts for help purchasing an air-conditioner for the Cub Scout hut to make it usable; and from the Freestone County Fair Board for assistance in obtaining insurance in order to have the 2019 Fair and Rodeo.
The Fair Board’s annual meeting was scheduled for Monday, October 15th at the Fairfield Civic Center. Fairfield Council Members were expected to be in attendance.
Councilmen agreed that the City should assist both organizations as much as possible, but the matters were postponed until further information can be gathered. The topics will be addressed again at a later date.
Lastly, Council entered into a two-hour long executive session in which they received a progress report regarding the audit being performed on the Police Department. No action was taken on this matter.
Removed from the agenda was an executive session to include a consultation with Attorney David Tuckfield in regard to pending legal issues pertaining to TDCJ and the City of Teague. A special called meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, October 16th at 6:00 p.m. for this issue.
