This November, First Baptist Church of Fairfield will serve as a drop-off location for the Samaritan’s Purse project Operation Christmas Child, joining nearly 5,000 U.S. locations collecting gift-filled shoeboxes for children in need around the world.
During the project’s National Collection Week, November 13-19, 2017, Fairfield and area residents will transform empty shoeboxes into gifts of hope filled with fun toys, school supplies and hygiene items.
After being dropped off, Operation Christmas Child will deliver these shoebox gifts to children living in poverty overseas.
This year, Fairfield-area residents hope to contribute more than 550 shoebox gifts toward the 2017 global goal of reaching 12 million children.
“We have an opportunity in Fairfield to give these simple shoebox gifts that will make a lasting impact on children across the world,” says Fairfield volunteer Ruby Thornburg, who has been the drop-off location coordinator for five years. “For many of these children, this shoebox is the first gift they have ever received. It sends a message that God loves them, and they are not forgotten.”
Drop off dates and times are as follows at the Christian Life Center:
–Monday through Friday (Nov. 13-17) from 3:00-6:00 p.m.
–Saturday (Nov. 14) from 1:00-6:00 p.m.
–Sunday (Nov. 19) from 2:00-4:00 p.m.
The church is located at 100 West Reunion Street in Fairfield.
