The Fairfield Eagles swept through the week with a pair of wins to advance to the third round of the Division I playoffs.

Fairfield travelled to China Spring to take on the Rockdale Tigers. Fairfield proved to be a tough matchup and would take an 83-63 win.

The Eagles jumped out to a quick lead with Jeremiah Watts trying to get the Tigers to catch up.

Kohl Collins and Madden McElroy put Fairfield ahead and Watts hit a transition basket to give the Tigers a 10-9 lead. He would have to exit the game when he picked up his second foul. Collins hit a shot from close range, and the Eagles took the lead, then he took a pass from Davonte Alexander to take the 13-10 lead in the second period. Watts picked up his third foul in the period and returned in the final minute and committed a player control foul for his fourth and the Eagles led 22-18 at the half.

Fairfield opened the second half with Collins, Ja’Kendrick Turner and McElroy scoring to open the game. McElroy hit a three pointer from the baseline for the 27-18 and finished the period dominating the Tigers and took a 46-29 lead into the fourth period.

The Eagles maintained the lead and added to the lead to preserve a 63-43 win. McElroy scored 17 points to lead all scorers with Collins adding 12 and Turned pitching in with 15.

The second round moved to Hewitt Midway and the opponent was the Grandview Zebras.

Collins and McElroy scored five each in the first period with Connor Colvert and Turner added three pointers and took the early lead.

Balanced scoring in the second period added seven points to the lead and Fairfield had a 35-23 halftime lead.

Kavion Hicks, Colvert and Turner led the way in the second half with all three nearing ten points in the half to add to the halftime lead and eventually win the game 80-60.

As of press time, all four District 20-3A teams have entered the third round. Fairfield is the second seed in the Division I bracket and will take on the Huntington Red Devils at the John Alexander Gymnasium in Jacksonville in the regional semifinal. Mexia is the top seed and defeated the Palmer Bulldogs to advance to the regional semifinal game and will take on the Orangefield Bobcats at Lufkin on Tuesday.

Buffalo dominated West and will take on state ranked Onalaska in the regional semifinal at Bryan on Tuesday in the Division II bracket.

District champion Westwood ran past Keene to advance and will take on New Waverly on Tuesday.
