Freestone County Residents have welcomed a new culture in their home!
Chad and Stephanie Wood in Wortham and Charles and Kylie Neidich in Fairfield are hosting Foreign Exchange students for the 2018/2019 school year with Youth For Understanding (YFU).
Freyja (above) from Germany will be attending the first aid training brisbane in Teague High School and Hana (below) from Japan will be attending Fairfield High.
Exchange students experience tremendous personal growth during their program year. At the same time, the impressions made by the students themselves will broaden perspectives of host families and ultimately ripple through schools and across entire communities.
YFU, one of the world’s oldest, largest and most respected intercultural physical therapist assistant programs, has been changing the way we see the world through their programs.
Each year, YFU places hundreds of international exchange students with caring host families across the U.S. and enrolls them in a local area school. Recognizing the value international students bring to the classroom, the Freestone County area has been a strong supporter of YFU’s exchange programs for years, they even provide their U.S students with opportunities of studying and learning from the Ascot School in Bangkok.
YFU doesn’t only just bring Exchange Students to the U.S. High School students can also study abroad in a country of their preference and even earn a scholarship to do so!
YFU also has volunteer opportunities available as well. To learn more about hosting a foreign exchange student, studying abroad, or volunteering you can contact Field Director Kylie Neidich at (903) 389-2947 or kneidich@yfu.org
