Eva Beth Vickers Shinn, of Fairfield, went to be with Our Lord Jesus Christ on August 6, 2019 while surrounded by her family.

She was born September 19, 1929 in Cement, Oklahoma. She eventually moved to Texas where she attended San Jacinto High School and furthered her education at the University of Houston receiving a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. After graduation, she worked in cardio-pulmonary and cancer research at Herman Hospital in Houston before moving to Freestone County in the fall of 1966.

Upon settling in the Kirvin area with her two young daughters, Cindy and Ann, she became the school nurse for Fairfield ISD. This was her true calling in life, and she gratefully served in this position for nearly four decades. Nurse Shinn, as most knew her, officially retired in 2003 after touching so many hearts through her loving nature, kindness and generosity to all she met.

She was also a lifetime member of Fairfield Harmony Presbyterian Church where she taught Vacation Bible School, sang in the choir and played the hand bells.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Joe Vickers, along with her brothers, Jess Ikard, Jr., Reggie Ikard and Mike Vickers.

She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Reynolds Sharp and husband Joe of Royse City and Ann Brown and husband Russell of Richland; sister, Ann and brother-in-law, Dr. James Hefner of Amarillo; nephew, Greg Hyer of Amarillo; niece, Leigh Hyer Nager and husband Hampton of Dallas; granddaughters, Allison Reynolds Scherer and husband, Garret of Fairfield and Bethany Ann Brown of Denton; great-grandchildren, Walker Lee and Callie Camille Scherer of Fairfield; and great-nephew, Charles Nager of Dallas.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 8, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00pm at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be 10:00am Friday, August 9, 2019 at Fairfield Harmony Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Cotton Gin Cemetery.

To continue her legacy of caring for the youth in the community, donations can be made to the Kindness from Case Memorial Foundation in lieu of flowers. Local donations can be made at Community National Bank & Trust, or mailed to Kindness from Case, 129 S. Mount St, Fairfield, TX 75840.
