“Though cable is not required by Jail Standards, I feel it is a necessity,” says Freestone County Sheriff Jeremy Shipley. “If the inmates don’t have TV to keep them occupied, we will have some big problems on our hands. They won’t have anything to do except bother each other.”
These statements were made in reference to a discussion regarding the fact that Northland Cable, which has supplied free cable to the jail for the past nine years, will now be charging $166.19 per month beginning July 1, 2017.
Commissioners decided to table this issue; and will readdress it and vote to approve or deny accepting the new 24-month contract at a special meeting to be held the last week of June.
One of the items Commissioners did vote on was to approve the purchase of a John Deere Tractor 6110M with Machete Boom for Precinct 4.
“This is a piece of equipment we definitely need to get our roads looking good again,” explains Pct 4 Commissioner, Clyde Ridge.
Commissioner Ridge wants to pay for the equipment in two payments of $71,193.86 each. He proposes to take the first payment from this year’s budget from his carryover and the second payment to be included in next year’s budget. The total is $142,387.72.
Commissioners voted unanimously in favor of approval.
Other items approved were minutes from previous meetings, budget amendments and transfers, acceptance of reports, and bill payment.
The burn ban remains lifted for the time being.
Commissioners Court Meetings are held on the first and third Wednesday of each month.
The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
Don’t forget that you can view a recording of each meeting online via YouTube or on the County’s website.
