Employee of the Year Award for 2020 was presented to Roger Reeves by Mayor Kenneth Hughes during Fairfield’s Regular Council meeting on Tuesday, March 9, 2021.


City Administrator Nate Smith reported that he is working with Freestone County Judge Linda Grant to offer a drive-thru COVID-19 vaccination clinic in the near future.

Arrangements were made for the upcoming City Election, as council members appointed Greg Gibson as Election Judge and Linda Sanford as Alternative Election Judge.

Also approved is an agreement with Fairfield ISD to conduct a joint election, and with Limestone County for the use of their election equipment.

The Fairfield City Election will be held Saturday, May 1, 2021 to fill Place III, Place IV, and Place V on the Council seat. These positions are currently held by Bobby Nichols, Landis Bayless, and Angela Oglesbee (appointed).

Fairfield Police Department’s annual Racial Profiling Report was approved, with one clerical correction.

Council approved renewing the Soccer Association’s contract for use of the Les Hayes and Moody Reunion Fairground fields.

A Purchase Request was approved for sewer work on Main Street (FM 488). According to City Administrator Smith, a stoppage earlier this year showed that one of the City’s manholes on that line needed to be replaced.

The quoted work is $21,000 by 5-T Utilities, Inc. As the proposed line item has a $9,580 budget balance, an amendment was required to be approved by Council for the balance of the work, at $11,420.

The Green Barn Committee has moved to Phase 2 of its renovation project, the exterior of the building which will require asbestos abatement of the green transite siding.

Council approved Sheppler Construction to replace the metal siding and existing brick wainscoting, once the abatement crews have completed their work. Their bid was for $73,855.

Councilman Randy Johnson was appointed to the Board of the Fairfield Economic Development Corporation.

At the request of Fire Chief Chandler Baggerly, Council approved a Resolution to apply for the State Homeland Security Grant Program for the radio project through the Office of the Governor.

Council approved the following purchases:

–Dump Trailer for the Public Works Department,

–Power and Light Pole replacement at City Park and fairgrounds,

–Bar Screen repairs at the TDCJ Boyd Unit Wastewater Plant.

Tabled until next time, was purchase of lawnmowers and equipment, and a landscaping trailer to be used at the TDCJ Boyd unit.

Following a closed Executive Session, Council approved the retirement of Becky Boyd, who will continue part-time, two days for training purposes. Also, contract for City Administrator Nate Smith was extended for a period of two years.
