Spreading Christmas cheer, while promoting the best of their small town, the Elf Adventure took off on the old fire truck last week in downtown Fairfield, Texas.
Accompanied by Santa Claus and The Grinch, the elves first visited area seniors at Fairfield Nursing & Rehab and Fairview Healthcare. Smiles abounded as they gave out hugs and candy canes.
The restored 1935 fire truck drew quite a bit of attention, as it ferried the elves around town. Passers-by honked and waved, as the lively group sang Christmas Carols.
At one nursing home, one resident wheeled out for a closer look.
The night’s official driver, Don Thornton, related a story of getting in the front seat as a boy and turning on the siren, as the fire truck was then parked on the Freestone County courthouse square.
It was back to the square for the Sip, Snack & Shop event, beginning with warm soup at Accessories, Etc.
The wall-to-wall customers enjoyed shopping for Christmas gifts and visiting with neighbors.
Before the elf brigade moved on, the first door prize winner of the evening was presented a beautiful Christmas ornament and stand, designed by a cancer patient from MD Anderson.
As the group moved on to the next local shop, they were greeted by members of the Eagle Choir, under the direction of Rachel Bossier. The students walked around the square that evening, singing Christmas Carols.
The elves, and several shoppers, visited a total of ten Fairfield businesses on the evening of December 14, 2017.
The event had the feeling of a festive open house with snacks, drinks, and door prizes served up at each location.
“I didn’t know they sold these!” one shopper was heard to say.
“They should do this several times a year,” stated one business owner.
The Elf Adventure was sponsored by the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce and hosted by the following businesses: Accessories, Etc.; Hometown Pharmacy Gift Shop, Dapper Designs, Plaid Peacock, Kennedy’s Korner, In Thee Beginning, Brenda’s Closet, Armadillo Emporium, The Shops at Peridot, and Creations Flowers & Gifts.
