In last week’s edition of “The Times,” we reported that for U.S. Representative, currently Freestone County is divided into two Districts, 17 with Pete Sessions, and 6 with Jake Ellzey. Following the redistricting of the map in August, beginning January 1, 2026, all of Freestone County will be District 17.

After we went to press, a Federal Court blocked Texas from using the new congressional map in the 2026 midterm elections.

However, on November 21, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito temporarily restored the map while the high court considers the state’s appeal.

As for now, the districting will remail split between 6 and 17 until a final verdict is reached.

Stay tuned.
