The Fairfield Eagles came into the season with new hopes and new faces and the result is turning into a successful season.

Kris Ballew is the new head coach of the Fairfield Eagles and he has mixed some returning talent with some underclassmen and they have earned wins early in the district race and currently lead for a shot at the postseason.

Fairfield Eagles rely on Kamren Griffin to gain possession of the ball on the opening play.

Fairfield hosted the Crockett Bulldogs at the Johnson Activity Center and battled the Bulldogs all the way to the end and came away with the win.

The Eagles fell behind in the first quarter 20-10 with hot shooting from the Bulldogs. Fairfield hit the final four shots of the first period, two by Pierre Allgood and one each from Kamren Griffin and Dekerione Cunningham, to cut the lead to ten.

Fairfield exploded for 26 points in the second period. Allgood hit a three pointer and Griffin added another. Crockett continued to hold a double-digit lead, and Allgood hit a second three pointer to cut the lead to 31-21. Fairfield went on an 8-0 run with Tyler Smith leading the fast break for a pair of scores. Smith had a steal and a lay up with 20 seconds remaining in the first half and took their first lead of the game at 34-33. Fairfield led 36-34 at the half.

Demonstrating the athleticism that makes him a top scorer for the Eagles is Tyler Smith #23. 

The Eagles kept the defensive pressure on and added to the two-point lead from the first half. Smith and Rex Bean added three pointers and Cunningham scored on two threes to extend the lead to five, since Crockett was able to keep pace. Fairfield hit three of the last four, the final shot on a put back of a miss by Griffin and the Eagles led 57-49 heading into the fourth period.

Griffin scored 11 in the final quarter to hold the lead; however, the Bulldogs did make a push, Tucker countered with eight in the quarter and Ty White went on a personal 5-0 run, but the Eagles held on for the 75-70 win.

Fairfield travelled to Groesbeck to battle the Goats. The Eagles would lead all four quarters and cruise to a 73-45 win.

Tyler Smith scored ten in the first period to set the Eagles at 16-10 in the first period. Bean led off the second with a three and Griffin added seven in the second to take a 33-22 lead into the halftime break.

The Eagles took complete control of the game with eight points from Griffin and five from Bean. Fairfield built the lead to 56-31 heading into the fourth period. Fairfield would add three to the lead in the final period and would win the game 73-45.

Fairfield will have games against Buffalo and Palestine Westwood as they make the turn in the district race.
