The Fairfield Eagles built a 49-0 halftime lead and dominated the Mexia Blackcats on the road at Blackcat Stadium Friday night to improve to 2-0 on the young season and hand the Blackcats their second loss on the season.
Everything worked for the Eagle offense, and the defense kept the Blackcat offense in check most of the night.

Fairfield scored on the opening possession and got a long first down on a 38-yard connection from quarterback Kohl Collins to Finn Smith to inside the Mexia 20. Jason Brackens finished the Eagle scoring drive with a one yard run to open the scoring after the extra point and led 7-0.
Kalil Appel recovered a Mexia fumble, and the Eagles had a short drive for their next score. The Eagles covered 18 yards in four plays and Collins found Smith in the end zone for the six-yard touchdown. Kieran King made the point after for the 14-0 lead.
Fairfield forced a punt and started at their 31. Collins dropped to pass, and Kavion Hicks made a terrific play on the ball to haul in the reception and complete a 71-yard touchdown and a 21-0 lead.
The teams exchanged turnovers to end the first quarter and on the first snap of the second quarter, Brackens added his second touchdown of the game on a three-yard run. A few minutes later Collins added his third touchdown pass to a third different receiver, this time to Connor Colvert for the 27-yard score and a commanding 35-0 lead.

Breyden Thornburg ended another Blackcat drive with a fumble recovery and Collins threw his fourth touchdown pass of the game with a 15-yard touchdown to Hicks. Smith added a late touchdown on the jet sweep and the Eagles led 49-0 halftime lead.
Fairfield put several additional players in the lineup in the second half. The Eagles scored on their first possession of the second half when Landon Washington connected with Hicks on an 18-yard touchdown, Hicks third touchdown of the game. Kyden Rodriguez added a touchdown in the fourth quarter on a three-yard touchdown and Kieran King completed his huge night with a 35-yard field goal to go with his 9-9 on extra points.

Hicks caught six passes for 135 yards and three scores to lead the way for the Eagles and Collins completed 16 of 18 passes for 273 yards and four touchdowns in the 66-0 win.
Fairfield travels to Brownsboro to take on the Bears and the Mexia Blackcats will also take to the road to Gatesville on Friday night.
