The Fairfield Eagles earned a sweep of the district openers over Mexia and Madisonville.  The defeated the Blackcats 55-43 on Tuesday at the Johnson Activity Center and the defeated the Madisonville Mustangs 52-46 on the road on Friday night.

The Tuesday game was an anticipated thriller against the Mexia Blackcats but the game was not a typical rivalry game between the two schools.  The win over the Blackcats was the 400th win for head coach Joey Worley in this career.  They have all been at Fairfield High School.

Fairfield led 8-7 following one quarter.  The Eagles scored three straight possessions with scores from DJ Houston (pictured at left), Kobe Freeman and Jaise Oliver.  Jalen Busby hit a three pointer at the buzzer to close the gap to one point.

Freeman scored ten points in the second quarter to open a slight lead.  Mexia had six turnovers in the frame and only attempted eight shots.  Fairfield extended the lead to 22-14 at the half.

The Eagles hit three of their first five from the field in the second half to extend the lead.  Oliver and Freeman scored on a pair of possessions and Devin Cunningham hit a three pointer.  He added a second one later in the quarter extended the lead by five points to 39-26.

The teams remained even throughout the final quarter to earn the 55-43 win.  Freeman scored 20 points and had 12 rebounds.  Oliver added 15 points and Cunningham had ten.

Freeman scored 15 points and Keshaun Crenshaw added ten and the Eagles defeated the Mustangs on the road 52-46.

Fairfield will have an important game against co-leader Palestine this week.
