Fairfield quarterback Kohl Collins threw for six touchdowns in the final tune-up of the non-district schedule and remain unbeaten. They defeated the McGregor Bulldogs 61-14 in front of a large homecoming crowd and are ready for the open date next week.

Collins completed 19 of 24 passes for 429 yards and six touchdowns and his services were not needed for the entire game as he exited with the big lead.

The Bulldogs took the first possession and were able to move the ball to take a rare lead over the Fairfield Eagles in this season. Bulldog quarterback Bubba Zacharias passes to Hunter Cowerd for a 44-yard gain to the Eagle 33. He connected with Braxton Franks on a pass inside the ten and a first down. The drive stalled and the Bulldogs lined up for a 30 field goal that was no good and the Eagles took over at the 20-yard line.

On the first play from scrimmage, Collins found Finn Smith for a 12-hitch route and he turned around and raced the rest of the way for the 80-yard touchdown and the early Eagle lead 6-0 on the Kyser Gregory extra point.

The Eagle defense held and took over at midfield and the offense went back to work. Collins passed to Kyden Rodriguez for 16 yards and then hit Kavion Hicks up the seam for a 27-yard score.

Gregory added the point after for the 14-0 first quarter lead.

Fairfield added one more first quarter touchdown on a short drive. Collins and Smith teamed up for a 38-yard gain and Hicks caught his second touchdown on a 14-yard pass and the 20-0 lead at the end of the quarter.

Connor Colvert intercepted a Bulldog pass and returned it 35 yards into Bulldog territory. He would also add the touchdown when Collins found him in the end zone to complete a 31-yard touchdown and lead increased to 26-0.

The Bulldogs put together a 75-yard drive that took ten plays and Zacharias scored on a four-yard run and the extra point cut the lead to 26-7.

The Fairfield offense quickly answered on a 62-yard drive that needed only four plays. Hicks caught a pair of passes and Collins took off on an option keeper and raced up the sideline for the 37-yard touchdown and the point after set the lead to 33-7.

The Eagles added a late touchdown in the half on a Jason Brackens one-yard touchdown. The final play of the half Collins hit Smith again for a 43-yard touchdown and led at the half 47-14.

Tylan Davis caught a second half touchdown pass that covered 25 yards and was the sixth touchdown pass and the final throw of the night for the Eagles as he gave way to the reserves and the lead increased to 61-14 toward the end of the third quarter.

Finn Smith caught six passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns on the night in the Fairfield Eagle win.

The fourth quarter was played with reserves on both sides of the ball and the Eagles closed out their first half of the schedule with a perfect 5-0 mark.

They will take the next week off and then travel to Teague to take on the Lions in the District 9-3A Division I opener.
