The Yoakum Bulldogs ended the season for the Fairfield Eagles in a 56-26 win in the area round of the playoffs at Temple High School Friday night.

Fairfield was forced to punt on their first possession and Yoakum was pinned back at their own 16-yard line. Senior quarterback Trea Cuellar ran for 24 and finally ended the drive with a 32-yard run for the first points of the contest and the early 7-0 lead. After another punt running back Donovan Toussaint burst up the middle for a 23-yard touchdown and the 14-0 lead.

Fairfield put the offense in motion and Jaylon Shed ripped off a 13-yard run and Finn Smith took the option pitch and used his speed to complete a 50-yard run down to the three-yard line. Shed finished the drive with the touchdown run and cut the lead in half on the King extra point.

Yoakam scored on their next two possessions, the first on a Cuellar pass to X’Zaviar Barnett for a 32-yard score and a second Toussaint 25-yard jaunt to increase the lead to 26-7 early in the second quarter.

Cuellar and Barnett connected again in the second quarter to increase the lead to 32-7 and the Bulldogs were in control. Fairfield would not be outdone, and Kohl Collins threw a perfect pass to Darian Hicks for the 37-yard touchdown and held the Bulldog lead to 32-13.

The Bulldogs added a final touchdown of the half on a 55-yard pass to Jamar Hopkins and a field goal to lead 39-13 at the half.

The Bulldogs added a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter, Toussaint on a 20-yard run and later added a 58-yard touchdown run and the Eagles trailed 56-13.

The Fairfield offense has not let up all season and continued to battle throughout the second half. On a play when Collins had the ball knocked out of his hands, offensive lineman Je’marion Parrish scooped it up and ran 12 yards for a first down. Collins passed to Cal Wilson for a 43-yard touchdown to end the third quarter and Talan Hathcock had a highlight reel 77-yard touchdown to finish the Eagle scoring.

Davonte Alexander had a couple of tackles behind the line of scrimmage but when the game was well in hand, he ran down the Bulldog running back late in the game that would have been a sure score.

The seniors playing their final game for Fairfield this season are Jaylon Shed, Cal Wilson, Eli Owens, Dylon McGowan, Talan Hathcock, Justus Savage, Landon Salinas, and Je’marion Parrish.
