The Fairfield Eagles swept the games for this week and remain in a solid spot for the postseason.
Fairfield exploded to a 21-4 lead in the first four minutes on the road in Teague with a Joshua George three pointer and Jakendric Turner and Madden McElroy jumped to a 6-0 run among themselves. Grayson Dancer Grayson tried to keep pace and did draw closer with Carter Stacks hitting a three and Zak Leija hitting a shot near the end of the period. Fairfield led 26-11 at the end of the first period.
Teague settled the waters and began to reel in the Eagles and cut the lead to nine in the mid-moments of the period. Collins scored seven of the ten Fairfield points and Bryce Bates scored at the end of some fast break opportunities for the Lions. They shaved the lead down to 35-26 heading into the halftime break.
McElroy, Turner and Connor Colvert took control of the third period to put the game out of reach. Toward the end of the period, the Eagles scored on five of six possessions and extended the lead to 64-34 after the 28-9 score in the period.
The teams played even throughout the fourth quarter and the Eagles secured a 73-45 road win in district play. McElroy scored 23 points to lead all scorers and Collins added 11 points in the win.
The Eagles returned to the Johnson Activity Center to take on the Buffalo Bison. The Bison came to Fairfield on a nice winning run and were tied with the Eagles for third in the District 20-3A race.
The Eagles hit four three pointers in the first period, two by Colvert and one each by Brown and McElroy and stopped 12 shots on the defensive end and pulled away in the first period. Hayden Shaw and Deaundre Turner each had a three pointer, and the Eagles led 16-8 following the first period.
Fairfield added six points to the lead with three more shots from long distance. Turnner had all three and scored 11 points in the period, matching the total for the Bison in the frame. Donte Lott scored four, but the Eagles continued to add to the lead and held a 33-19 halftime advantage.
For the second time in the week, the Eagles sealed the game with a dominating third period. Turner hit two and Colvert one more three pointer and the Eagles hit eight of their last eleven shots in the period and took the period 25-9 and led 69-28 at the end of the quarter.
The teams shot the ball well in the final period. Fairfield hit their first six shots of the fourth and pushed the lead out further and would take the dominating win 75-43.
Turner led all scorers with 23 points and hit five of nine three pointers. Collins finished with a double double tallying 12 points and pulling down a district high 18 rebounds in the win.
