Fairfield Invitational Basketball Tournament
POOL A
The Fairfield Eagles took the pool play easily to advance to the Gold Division bracket. They coasted by the Oakwood Panthers 84-44 and Melissa 69-38
Fairfield got 15 points each from E.J. Ransom and Akeem Jackson in game one. The built a 15 point first period lead and coasted to the win. It was much of the same for the Oakwood game. Ransom scored 29 and Jackson, Tatum, and Kolby Branch added double figures in scoring. Oakwood lost to Melissa and dropped to the Bronze bracket and Melissa went to the silver.
POOL B
The Grapeland Sandies took two close wins to move into the Gold bracket. They defeated the Teague Lions 72-67 and LaVega 53-52. Teague was playing in their first games since the regional semifinal loss in football. They lost to LaVega 65-50 and filled the bronze division bracket. LaVega had the one loss and moved into the silver bracket but could not come on the final day due to their football game obligations.
POOL C
Aggieland Home School defeated China Spring and Mexia to advance to the Gold division bracket. The Blackcats edged China Spring, playing without some key players due to football, 59-53. China Spring went to the bronze bracket and Mexia played in the silver.
POOL D
The Fairfield Eagle junior varsity was a late substitution when Normangee cancelled and they more than held their own in the tournament. K.D. Walker scored 13 points in the 53-35 loss to Argyle. Jordan Gipson scored 10 in the 54-38 loss to Corsicana and moved onto the bronze bracket. Argyle defeated Corsicana and advanced to the gold bracket
BRONZE BRACKET
Teague took a 50-18 lead at the half and claimed their first win of the season and a berth in the bronze bracket final. Mylan Shed scored 18 points and turned it over to the reserves. Gary McQuirter 12 points and Tyrese Heard added 16 more in the 87-36 win. They were joined by China Spring, who defeated the Fairfield Junior Varsity 46-36. Walker scored 13 points for the Eagles.
The final went to the China Spring Cougars 59-55. Fairfield Junior Varsity eased past Oakwood.
SILVER BRACKET
LaVega defeated Melissa 48-42 in the semifinal but Melissa was advanced to the final since the Pirates would not be back on Saturday. Mexia got 30 points from High and coasted past Corsicana 68-49 to head to final to play Melissa.
Melissa eased past Mexia in the final day of the tournament 48-45. High had another big game with 20 points but the Cardinals claimed the victory.
GOLD BRACKET
The Fairfield Eagles took two tough losses in the gold division bracket. Grapeland controlled the game and a late Eagle comeback fell short in a 64-62 loss to the Sandies. McQuirter hit four three pointers in the fourth quarter and a late tip-in fell off the rim. They would also drop the consolation to Aggieland 56-47.
Aggieland lost to Argyle 48-36 and the Eagles would face the Grapeland Sandies. Nathan Priddy hit five three pointers and Eagles ten total and Argyle pulled out to a big lead and cruised to a 54-29 win to claim the gold division tournament title.
Argyle went a perfect 4-0 in the tournament.
