The football season is about to get underway and the fall sports will take up the rest of the time and somewhere there will be classes in school.
The Lady Eagles are in full swing in the gym and volleyball has gotten off to a swift start. At press time, they were 6-2 in early season play. They have four seniors to lead the way and look to the post season and a decent run.
The district should be balanced and four teams advance so the Lady Eagles should perform well. Aaron Scires is a player to watch for the Lady Eagles with a couple of years remaining after her sophomore season. DaMeka Shed has been a standout in multiple sports and she is proving that with senior leadership and the record shows it.
The ladies cross country team has enjoyed huge success over the last five years. They have won the district five times in a row and produced regional trips all five years and three titles came from that. They have had runners in the state cross country meet five times straight and they expect the same from the field of runners this year.
The cross country team is led by the only senior on the squad in Captain Kara Doyle. The remaining runners are all underclassmen. They are juniors Britain Bossier, Victoria Donohoo and Alexis Rodriguez. The sophomore runners are Michelle Rosales, Madison Smith, Ashlyn Partain and Morgan Coleman. The freshman running for the varsity this season is Braden Bossier.
The football team opens the 2016 team as one of the teams to watch for success in our area. They performed well in both scrimmages, one of them the new look Madisonville Mustangs. The will travel to Bellmead this Friday and take on defending state champion LaVega at Pirate Stadium. It will be a good test to see how they will battle the rest of the schedule a tough opening game.
Head coach John Bachtel and his coaching staff feels good about the upcoming season. There is some youth in a few key areas but that makeup of youth and experience showed well in a deep playoff run a few short years ago.
