The Fairfield Eagle track teams took a district title and a runner up position at the District 18-4A meet at Palestine High School last week. The top four finishers in each event move onto the area meet in Lorena on Wednesday.
Da’Meka Shed (Pictured at top) advanced as the winner in both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. She finished ahead of Chloe Olvera of Madisonville in both events. Kaitlynn Judd finished fourth in the 300 hurdles. Shed also finished second in the triple jump and was only three inches from the winning jump from Dominique Lacy of Palestine.
Brandi Carter took third in the 200-meter dash behind Dominique Lacy of Palestine and Kyra Robinson of Athens. Alexis Rodriguez also finished third in the 400-meter dash behind a pair of sprinters from Palestine. Iesha Jenkins finished fourth to qualify for the area meet.
Madison Smith has had some of the best times in Central Texas and she finished in the top spot in the 800-meter run and the 3200-meter run. She dominated both events with a 13 second gap over second place and teammate Morgan Coleman was a full four seconds ahead of Olivia Cone of Palestine and teammate Rodriguez finished fourth and will advance as well.
All three relay teams will compete in the area meet after all of them finished in the top four and scored several points toward the team district title. The Lady Eagle sprint relay team of Kaylee Adams, Jada Clark, Anayaiah Larkin and Brandi Carter finished fourth. The 4×200 team finished third just behind Palestine. The team consisted of Iesha Jenkins, Carter, Clark, and Matilda Ohvo. The Lady Eagle mile relay team of Jenkins, Shed, Smith and Ohvo took silver behind Madisonville.
A pair of Lady Eagles vaulted over the competition on their way to the area meet. Cali Gawryszewski and Jaylin Hughes finished first and second in the pole vault
Keara Birdow took a second-place finish in the shot put and Josey Richardson and Tanna Lide finished second and third in the discus.
Ashlyn Partain finished fourth in the 1600-meter run. Ohvo finished fourth in the high jump.
Shed finished third in the long jump.
Tarrance Rischer took the double first place finishes in the shot put and the discus.
Slade Harkcom won the 800-meter run over a pair from Palestine and his teammate split the pair and finished third.
Kolby Adams won the 100 meter hurdles and Ben Mathison of Palestine finished second and Eagle teammate Ty Bachtel (Pictured above – far left) finished third. Bachtel made it a pair of third place finishes with a bronze in the 300 meter hurdles.

The Fairfield varsity took the team title with 194 points. Madisonville and Palestine were a distant second and third. The junior varsity accomplished the same task with a dominating district team win.
The Fairfield guys finished second in the team competition behind Palestine and ahead of Athens. The junior varsity finished third in the team race.
Roderick Larkin finished third in the 400-meter dash and John Owens qualified for the area meet with a fourth-place finish.
All three relays will move onto the area meet with top four finishers. The sprint relay team of Ransom, Jashaughn Hatcher, Blake Posey (Pictured above – right) and Polk finished third in a close race behind Athens and Palestine. The 4×200 team, same four as the sprint relay, battled Madisonville, and were edged out for a second-place finish. It was another close finish in the mile relay. The team of Harkcom, Bachtel, Johnn Owens and Larkin finished third behind Athens and Palestine.
Grant Hubbert finished first in the pole vault and Tyler Hayes finished third.
Akeem Jackson finished third in the high jump. Ransom finished fourth in the long jump. Adams finished third in the triple jump.
