Benjamin (Ben) Havens, 18, of Boy Scout Troop 70, will be honored at a special Eagle Scout ceremony at 3:00 pm on Sunday, March 28, in Groesbeck, TX. The Court of Honor will be held at Springfield Hall,199 Park Road 35, Groesbeck, TX. All Eagle Scouts are invited to attend.
Boy Scout Troop 70 is based in Mexia and sponsored by the Lions Club. The Scoutmaster for Troop 70 is Clint Flatt. Ben has been involved in scouts from the time he was in kindergarten as a Bobcat. He has worked his way through all the ranks of Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. To earn Scouting’s highest honor, Benjamin had to earn at least 21 merit badges, serve as a leader in his troop, and complete a major community service project.
Ben’s service project was building trophy shelves for the Wortham High School Band Hall. He designed, stained, and constructed shelves around the band hall for all of the previous years awards, and for the future also!
Havens has been a member of Troop 70 for over 8 years. He has served as a senior patrol leader, assistant patrol leader, and quartermaster. Ben has attended numerous camps while a member of the Boy Scouts including Twin Arrows Leadership Camp (NYLT), Mountain Man Camp at Buffalo Trails Scout Ranch, and Camp Jim Braley. He has logged over 100 hours of community service with the scouts including collecting trash for the Adopt a Highway Program, Honor Guard for numerous parades, flag retirements, placing flags on Veterans’ graves, and volunteering for the Lions Club. Ben is also a member of Order of the Arrow, scouting’s honor society.
Benjamin is a senior at Wortham High School. He plans to enter the engineering program at Texas Tech University in Lubbock in the fall.
