Fairfield High School students and Eagle Beat staff, Morgan Coleman and Braden Bossier placed second and third in the Lone Star Writing Contest, co-sponsored by the Interscholastic League Press Conference and Texas Press Association.
Both girls won with articles published in the Freestone County Times, with Coleman claiming second place and $100 prize, and Bossier earning third place and $75.
All editors and staff of the Eagle Beat are published in the local newspapers and all qualified to enter the state-wide contest!
Eagle Beat sponsor Kathie Maciel shared that students’ publications in local newspapers helps them to build confidence and assemble portfolios of their work, with some even going on to secure positions with college newspapers following graduation.
