Assisting Officer Michael Darby (right) in making a drug bust last week are Officer Jason Morgan (left) and his K9 partner, Zelda.
Teague Police Department’s newest officer hit the ground running last week.
K9 Officer Zelda, and her handler, Officer Jason Morgan more, than made the grade, when, just hours into Zelda’s first day on the job, the partners assisted Officer Michael Darby with a sizeable narcotics bust, Thursday, December 14, 2016.
Chief Dan Ramsey took to the Police Department’s Facebook page to publicly commend Zelda, and Officer Morgan, for their impressive contribution to the force:
On behalf of the Teague Police Department I want to welcome the new member to our team.
Yesterday Officer Zelda joined our fight against narcotics in the city of Teague and Freestone County.
Zelda is our new K9 and has teamed up with Officer Morgan, her handler. They are setting the stage to work toward combating narcotics.”
They have a message to those who are selling, using and possessing narcotics:
“We are coming and we are coming with a vengeance. Your property, your contraband and any proceeds made in the narcotic sales and possession will be seized by the Teague Police Department.”
On the first day and their first traffic stop, officers of the Teague Police Department, to include Officer Zelda, recovered contraband. Using the expertise of officer Zelda they recovered over 28 grams of Crack Cocaine and over 1 ounce of Marijuana along with a large amount of US currency.”
I am extremely proud of all of the members of the Police Department. They are all dedicated to provide quality service to the citizens of Teague.
Officer Zelda, well done young lady you are an asset to the thin blue line!
I want to thank the Mayor and City Council for all of their support this year.
Thanks to Zelda’s finely tuned senses, the officers were able to arrest John Anthony Abram for Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance (28.76 grams of Crack Cocaine), Penalty Group 1, and Possession of Marijuana less than 2 ounces.
Abram is now incarcerated in the Freestone County Jail, where he awaits arraignment.
“I just think she’s awesome!” gushed Junior Officer Case Williams upon meeting Zelda, a beautiful one year old black Labrador.
Case dedicated much of his summer to operating a lemonade stand and raising money to pay for Zelda and Officer Morgan’s training at the Canine Academy Training Center in Leander, Texas.
Chief Ramsey also thanked Mr. Bill May for organizing a recent musical event to raise money for the department’s newest edition.
“We’re ready to get this show on the road,” said Officer Morgan, no doubt speaking for his new partner as well.
