One man is dead after an SUV slid into the path of an 18-wheeler on an icy stretch of I-45 in Freestone County just south of Fairfield.
The Department of Public Safety identified the victim as Claudio Romero of Ennis, Texas.
Romero was driving north on I-45 around 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, 2021 when he lost control on a patch of ice and slid into the path of a Volvo 18-wheeler.
The DPS urged Texans to practice caution in winter conditions and shared that slowing down is the most important thing to do when driving on ice and snow.
High speeds make it easy to lose control and difficult to stop.
If you’re fishtailing or sliding at all, it may mean you are going too fast for the conditions.
