Dear Editor,
I am a Democrat. I’m retired (never worked harder), so I’ve seen decades of the results of politics and government. The Democratic Party consistently proposes and supports the policies I believe will make America a better and stronger nation. I now have irrefutable proof that I have been correct.
Republicans take the stance that opposing their ideas is some sort of “derangement syndrome.” I have a different definition of what is “deranged.” It’s deranged to think America will be made better by opposing having easy access to health care and education. Republicans take every opportunity to undermine Americans having such access. Republicans voted over 60 times to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Their new funding bill allows funding to lapse, throwing millions off health care, and worse, flooding our Emergency Rooms to the point Hospitals will be forced to shut down. Over 130 rural hospitals have shut their doors since Trump first took office, many of them in Texas.
Trump and Project 2025 are determined to end public education, allowing only the most elite to have access. Vouchers? How funded? If by property taxes, like is currently the case for education, how long before property owners vote to have the education part of their taxation ended?
It’s deranged to think that women can be stripped of their rights by male government policy makers, the right that they had for fifty years to bodily autonomy and making their own decisions about reproduction (through Roe v. Wade), and this will make America better. A ten-year-old rape victim FORCED by government to carry to term? Deranged.
It’s deranged to make a national issue of denying transgender citizens rights. First, they are less than 1% of our population, an “easy target” to be demonized. Second, when asked what actual problem is being solved by, for example, the Texas SB 8 “Bathroom Bill,” Republicans can’t cite even ONE example of a problem. Yet they call this bill a “landmark victory.” It’s a victory for derangement.
It’s deranged to claim to be for law and order, yet support and vote for leaders that protect pedophiles, refuse to release the Epstein files, give sweetheart treatment to Epstein during his first arrest, and recently to Ghislaine Maxwell (now our neighbor down near Bryan in a Country Club incarceration). Our 34-time felon President released ALL of the Jan 6 violent rioters, OKed his Homeland Security boss Homan taking blatant bribes, and well over 100 courts have ruled Trump’s actions to be illegal and/or unconstitutional. And this is just a partial list of the ways Trump fails in his duty to “take care the laws are faithfully executed.” Deranged.
As a Democrat, and as a citizen, I remain diligently skeptical of government action, as our founders intended. Yet, I’m able to see over the decades what policies HELP America become stronger and better, and which policies cause us to regress. Consistently, Democratic policies help THE PEOPLE, while Republican policies focus on the wealthy and the elite, and disparage everyone else, particularly workers.
In this latest government shutdown, the irrefutable PROOF that Democratic policies are good, while Republican policies are BAD, is that Trump and his minions are using every means at their disposal (considerable) to BLAME the Democrats for the shutdown. Why would Trump do this? Because he KNOWS that shutting down government is a political LOSER. Even though Trump has been gutting government, from the DOJ to DOD to ERA to CDC to DOE, and DOGE seeking to fire tens of thousands of government workers, Trump wants to blame anti-government actions on DEMS. He knows what he’s been doing is BAD and unpopular. Otherwise, he’d be TAKING CREDIT!! And we all know how much Trump loves taking credit. Deranged.
