Dear Editor,
When I heard about the ambush in Dallas, I wanted to do something. I come from a family of Law Enforcement Officers. I had an uncle who was an MP in the Air Force, an uncle who was a Sgt. with the DPD for over 11 years, my dad was the Sheriff of Navarro County, I graduated from the Police Academy and worked for the CPD and now my son has graduated the Police Academy and is currently employed with the NCSO and is on their Honor Guard. I guess you could say we are a Blue family. We definitely back the blue.
When I found out that one of the five officers that was killed was one of our own, who I went to school with, worked with at CISD & whose kids went to school together, I knew I had to do something. So after talking with several people this benefit was born. Then with the tragic loss of Officer Darren Murray, we decided to make it a benefit for both families.
The outpouring has been overwhelming. Everyone has come together to help make this a great benefit. We have received donations from New York, San Antonio, Round Rock, the DFW area as well as from merchants here in Navarro County.
We will have a BBQ dinner, silent/live auction and Faster Horses Band will perform. It will be on Saturday August 27 at the VFW here in Corsicana starting at 4pm. The BBQ dinner will be from 4pm-7pm tickets will be $15 a plate and $5 for kids under 10. After 7pm tickets will be $10 a person to come enjoy the band.
After speaking with the families of Brent and Darren, we have agreed to put all of the proceeds from this benefit into The Brent Thompson Navarro County Fallen Officers Fund at City National Bank.
We want everyone to come out and have a good time and to support these families as well as all of our Law Enforcement Officers and let them know that we stand with them.
