Dear Editor,

Early in my working career after the Army, I had opportunities to join two competing design/build firms as a salesman. One offered a modest salary plus generous commissions based on my sales, and the other offered a slightly higher salary plus a commission plan wherein all the salesmen shared all the commissions equally, regardless of individual productivity. I thought the latter inherently unfair and chose the one that paid higher for individual performance, a decision I never regretted.

We see today a similar struggle to put in place nationally two flawed, unfair systems on us by the present leftist administration: Diversity and Equity being presented as good and wholesome in a perverted sense of their real, true definitions. The Red Queen in Alice in Wonderland when asked by Alice what a word meant, answered, “It means what I want it to mean!” That was a fantasy world story; Americans today live in the real world.

Diversity is promoted today in such a false, perverted sense. Prior to being elected President, Mr. Biden stated publicly that he would select as his vice-presidential running mate, a woman of color. It was a political move to reward feminists and people of color for supporting his candidacy. It was his choice, but he at once eliminated every well- qualified male candidate as well as every qualified caucasian woman. If sex and ethnicity are more important qualifications than intelligence, education, ability, maturity, judgement, and political experience, we are in deep trouble for the next three years. Make no mistake: diversity is a good thing but not an end unto itself and should never trump merit.

No thinking person of any ethnicity in his right mind would choose a surgeon for his open heart surgery because that surgeon was graduated from medical school under a politically mandated quota. When it matters (as it surely does today), merit/ability is most important.

The new “woke” buzzword is equity, a term again subverted from its true meaning. The word actually means partial ownership: in stocks, a piece of a company, part ownership in land, etc. In other words, a legitimate right to have a part of something. Ownership in anything demands a price: money, work, productivity, service, sacrifice, etc. It requires something of effort more than being able to simply stand on American soil, either by native-born or by illegal migrant. Individuals should rightfully earn an equity in anything they expect to have, either through work, public service, military duty, immigration processes, investment in the economy, etc. Guaranteed annual income is the latest trial balloon democrats have floated in order to transfer assets from working, productive Americans to unproductive residents (American citizens and others) who are being bought to vote for their party. A clear example is the inflated, extended unemployment program which pays people better than if they held jobs.

When you read the words diversity, equity in the news, know that these words really mean. They mean what the Red Queen democrats want them to mean. God help us, and

God bless America.
