Dear Editor,
Coronavirus has highlighted the critical role that public service plays in our society. However, even in normal times we rely on our local, county, state and federal service workers for clean water, food safety, national defense, air safety, police and fire protection, education, postal service, health care, parks and recreation, good roads and road maintenance, trash pickup, transportation, environmental protection, Social Security and Medicare administration, and the list goes on.
Public Service Recognition Week is May 3 – 9 and was established by the Public Employees Roundtable in 1985 to be on the first week, beginning on the first Sunday in May to honor our local, county, state and federal employees. So, please take a moment to think about the public support that is needed to carry out these essential functions on a day to day basis, and express your appreciation as needed to carry out these critical jobs.
