The Sam Houston Memorial Museum is pleased to announce its 2021 Photo Contest. There are no residency requirements to enter the contest; the contest is open to anyone and everyone who is a non-professional photographer and would like to win the $100 for Best in Show, $75 for Reserve Grand Champion or $20 for first, $15 for second, and $10 for third place in each of the five categories. Staff Favorite awards will also be given. The categories for submission this year are Animals, Architecture, Historic Sites, People, and Plants. Deadline to enter is Monday, October 25 by 4:00 p.m.
Cost per entry is $5.00 and payment method is cash only. Each photo entry must have its own entry application. Photographs must be submitted as full 8”x10,” unmounted, unframed, and with no border. No exceptions. Photos will not be accepted that have titles and names printed on the front of the image, and entries must be suitable for family viewing. Photographers may enter as many categories, as they like, but no more than two (2) photos per category.
This year marks the 12th anniversary of the museum’s photo contest. “We look forward to the photo contest each year. Each year the talent of the photographers amazes us,” said Jude Routh, Curator of Exhibits.
All submitted photos will be on display in the Exhibit Gallery at the Katy & E. Don Walker, Sr. Education Center from November 5 to December 23, 2021. The Artists and Awards Reception is slated for Thursday, November 11 from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. All photographers will be honored, and winners announced at the reception.
The complete list of contest rules and entry form can be picked up at the Main Museum, Wigwam Neosho Museum Store, or the Katy & E. Don Walker, Sr. Education Center any time during museum hours or downloaded directly from the museum’s website at: samhoustonmemorialmuseum.com.
