Entry deadline has been extended to the end of May for Freestone County Historical Commission’s new Heritage Scholarship.
FCHC is awarding three $500.00 scholarships to Freestone county’s May, 2022 graduating seniors from high schools: Fairfield, Teague, Wortham and from home schools. “Exploring Our Freestone County History” is the theme of their presentations.
The students are required to use the resources available at the Freestone County Historical Museum as the foundation sources of their Freestone county history interpretations. Their presentations can be in any medium: essays from 200 to 500 words, poetry, artwork: such as drawings, paintings, building model replicas and 3 to 5 minute video presentations for oral presentations or historic site videos with oral narration. A resume style cover letter is required to provide brief student biographical information with their college of choice and personal goals. Learning your local history while utilizing the creative, interpretive process should make this a rewarding (not just monetary) experience for students headed to higher academia.
Entry deadline is Tuesday, May 31 and can be mailed to Freestone County Historical Commission at P.O. 881 Fairfield, Texas 75840 or Freestone County Historical Museum P.O. Box 524 Fairfield, Texas 75840. Contact: Patricia Pratt at 903 389-3738 (museum).
