‘Purpose in the Pain’ hosted by Sonoma and Tony Adkins of Freestone County

“Ultimately, the goal of this podcast is the edification of the Body of Christ, the amplification of voices that might otherwise go unheard. We believe testimony matters, not only for the one who speaks, but for all who hear. In sharing these stories, we desire to give a voice to His children in the hope that all creation obtain the freedom that is found in the glory of the children of God,” says co-creator Tony Adkins about the new podcast, ‘Purpose in the Pain.’

Tony, along with his wife Sonoma, debuted their podcast on January 5, 2026. The first episode was an introduction of the show, its background and goal, along with a brief synopsis of each of their own personal testimonies.

“The idea behind ‘Purpose in the Pain’ is rooted in this Truth,” explains Sonoma. “Our heart is to give the children of God the opportunity to share their testimony; the trials, suffering, and hardships they are facing and have overcome with the world. In doing so, we hope not only to help our guests discover deeper understanding of the ‘Purpose in the Pain,’ but also to allow their stories to speak Truth into darkness and inspire others who may be facing similar circumstances.”

The couple, who recently celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary and live in Freestone County on a small family ranch just outside of Fairfield, explained that the inspiration behind the podcast was the desire to see those around them overcome their struggles as well as share how they overcame their trials. “There is power in the blood of the Lamb, the words of our testimony and that we don’t love ourselves unto death. As it says in Psalms 34:18, our foundational scripture, ‘The Lord is close to those brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.’ – NIV. We wanted to give those that have no voice a voice to share their story.”

They go on to say, “Through these conversations we have been humbled. Some guests arrive searching and through the course of the discussion begin to discover meaning, healing, or clarity. Others come ready to share the good news; glad tidings of how Jesus met them in their suffering and saved their lives. Some experience freedom as they tell their story; others grant freedom to those listening through their courage in sharing their story.”

Tony, 46, is the son of the late Jess Adkins (local veterinarian) and Shirley Adkins, brother to Jenny Miller, and is a graduate of Fairfield High School. He works for Specialty Risk Insurance specializing in risk management for the commercial ag and energy industries.

Sonoma, 53, spent most of her life in Wichita Falls and Conroe and is the daughter of Jimmy Chancey and Toni Chancey, sister of Savannah Loveless, and she enjoys a multitude of children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, including so many from the community. She has served the area in public service for many years before becoming a stay at home “Lollie” to her grandchildren, as well as volunteering at Faith Academy of Freestone.

Both have committed to service of others through their work in public service and non-profits serving our communities such as Still Creek Ranch, Faith Academy of Freestone, CASA and many others. They are currently working to form their own family foundation to continue serving the community.

They do not align themselves with a specific church, saying, “While we have attended many different denominations, we currently consider ourselves more “interdenominational” as we can resonate with many Christian faiths and beliefs. Our primary concern is that we all believe, lean on, and most importantly look to and have a relationship with Jesus Christ.”

The pair concludes by saying, “We are committed to living this endeavor ‘out loud,’ meaning we are willing to show our imperfections and share how we evolve and grow. Life is not about being perfect before you get started, it is about being obedient and having the courage and willingness to get started. We hope that just as many are inspired by watching us work out the kinks and issues we come across and follow us on this journey as we work to improve this craft and glorify our Father in Heaven. We invite everyone to learn with us as we go and ask for their grace as we fail or fall short, focusing on the fact that this is really about Him and testimony of his beloved children as they glorify Him through their story. ‘Purpose in the Pain’ exists to point toward freedom; to testify, to proclaim Truth, and to remind the world that suffering is not the end of the story. Redemption is.”
