With schools remaining closed till the end of the school year, many people are left asking one simple question: What about the graduating Seniors?
Freestone County is stepping up to the plate to honor these special students, while maintaining their social distancing.
Throughout the month of May the Courthouse Square will be covered in signs, banners, and even the lights will change to different school colors.
This is all being done to honor the Graduating Class of 2020.
Ward Sign Co. in Fairfield, Texas has had the honor of making signs for Fairfield and Wortham, with people calling in and anonymously buying signs for those who cannot afford one themselves.
During the phone conversation The “Times” had with the sign company they expressed how they, “Think it is really neat,” that the County is working together to honor all these students.
Betsy Monico, who is not only a teacher at Fairfield ISD but also a mother of a graduating senior, is putting her heart into this project and explains, “We just wanted to show support & love!”
Each city has their own plan on how to best honor their kids.
Fairfield is painting the town, literally!
Janie Haydon, an art teacher with Fairfield ISD, happily took on the job of painting store windows throughout Fairfield, Texas.
Window paintings can be sponsored, and as of Saturday, April 25, 2020, sixty windows were already being painted.
Some windows are for groups, clubs, teams, and of course, the individual student windows.
Teague is working to celebrate their seniors on a weekly basis.
This week they plan to turn on the stadium lights at 8:20 p.m. on Friday night, 20:20 military time, and businesses and households are encouraged to join.
Teague will also having a banner placed at the courthouse, and plan to have signs of the seniors at the school campus.
Wortham specific plans were unavailable at press time, but they are having some banners and signs made.
