In a report recently published by the Department of Veterans Affairs, it was indicated that Freestone County had a veteran population of 2,241 during the 2017 calendar year and these veterans received $12,703,000 from the VA. The monies were categorized as follows:
–Compensation & Pension – $6,025,000
–Medical Care – $6,365,000
–Education & Vocational Rehabilitation – $243,000
–Insurance & Indemnities – $70,000
The VA also reported that 533 Freestone County veteran patients received treatment at a VA Health Care facility during 2017. These facilities are located in Palestine, Waco, Temple, and Dallas.
