For the past 14 months, Sheriff Jeremy Shipley has participated in the Texas Association of Counties (TAC) Leadership 254 Development Program designed specifically to advance the leadership skills of county officials to help them meet the unique and difficult challenges of their duties. The program’s curriculum challenges officials to grow as leaders through skill assessments, discussions, theory building, self-examination, and experiential learning. Module materials focused on exploring new dimensions of one’s self and relating to others; decision making, integrity and civility; leading others; and transformational leadership.

As an attendee with the program, Sheriff Shipley completed all required training elements which included four, in-person, training modules, 79 hours of classroom, and experiential training exercises, over the course of 14 months. He is one of 24 county officials who graduate from the program in April, and one of only 5 Sheriffs across the state of Texas who have ever graduated since the program’s induction.

“I feel like I’m a good leader for our county and I work hard to do the best I can for the citizens I serve in the position I’m in, but I’m always looking to improve and be better. The best leaders have a desire to serve the people and I’ll continue to work hard, to do what’s right for the right reasons, and to seek those avenues that allow me growth in order to better serve you and our county law enforcement.” –Sheriff J.
