While a few Texas candidates look toward a Run-Off Election in May, Freestone County voters made a definitive choice for local Republican candidates in last week’s Primary Election.
Successful in their campaigns include:
–Jim Lawrence for Justice of the Peace – Pct. 2, receiving 57.43% of the vote.
A total of four candidates were in the race for this JP position. Jim Lawrence (402 votes), Kristina Capp Flannery (118 votes), Kasey Pickett Allen (94 votes), and Tammy Ramsey (86 votes).
–Incumbent Clyde Ridge for County Commissioner – Pct. 4, receiving 67.82% of the vote.
Three candidates ran for this Commissioner position. Clyde Ridge (590 votes), Adam Minze (167 votes), and John T. Massey (113 votes).
–Incumbent Jeannie Keeney for County Treasurer, receiving 52.51% of the vote.
Jeannie Keeney (1,516 votes) faced off against one opponent, Tammy Harris (1,371 votes).
Also on the local Republican Party ballot included the following unopposed candidates:
–Republican County Chair – Ken Turchi (2,264 votes)
–Justice of the Peace – Pct. 4 – incumbent Lisa Hendrix (689 votes)
–Justice of the Peace – Pct. 3 – incumbent Cinnamon Archibald (667 votes)
–Justice of the Peace – Pct. 1 – incumbent Theresa Farris (582 votes)
–County Commissioner – Pct. 2 – Will McSwane (598 votes)
–County Clerk – incumbent Renee Gregory Reynolds (2,479 votes)
–District Clerk – incumbent Teresa F. Black (2,578 votes)
–County Judge – incumbent Linda Grant (2,620 votes)
There were no candidates in the Democratic Primary at the county level in Freestone County.
Joining the May 24th Run-Off Election will be two candidates in the race for 87th District Judge: Amy Thomas Ward of Limestone County receiving 37.57% of the total votes, and Dan Scarbrough of Anderson County receiving 24.44% of the votes.
Ward led the race in three of the four counties in the 87th Judicial District. She garnered 2,119 votes in Limestone County, 1,143 votes in Leon County, and 1,666 votes in Freestone County.
With an additional 769 votes from Anderson County, Amy Thomas Ward garnered a total of 5,697 votes in this race.
Scarbrough topped his opponents in Anderson County with 2,350 votes.
With an additional 359 from Freestone County, 740 from Leon County, and 257 from Limestone County, Dan Scarbrough received a total of 3,706 votes in the primary.
Again, there were no candidates in the Democratic Primary in the race for 87th District Judge.
