“I’ve truly enjoyed working for the County as Treasurer,” says Jeannie Keeney (right). “And I appreciate Freestone County citizens for trusting and allowing me the opportunity to serve them for the past 12.5 years.”

Her service as County Treasurer will end this week.

Jeannie began her career with Freestone County in 2012 when she was hired as Assistant Treasurer.

In 2018, she ran and was elected as Treasurer, and was re-elected in 2022 for a second term.

In February of this year, Jeannie’s husband, Wesley, was relocated to South Texas with his job, and the family has been living apart during the week since that time.

“We were trying to make it work, but we soon realized that it was not the best option for our family,” she says.

On July 3, 2024, Jeannie turned in her resignation notice to the County, stating that her last day serving as Treasurer would be August 3, 2024; and it was accepted by Commissioners during their monthly court held July 10th.

“Jeannie has done a great service to Freestone County, and she will be missed,” states Freestone County Judge, Linda Grant, when asked about Jeannie’s resignation.

If you don’t know Jeannie from her position at the County, you may know her from one of the many community organizations she volunteers with.

She and Wesley both served as Volunteer Firefighters for Fairfield’s department; and she is a member of the Fairfield Fire Auxiliary, is Secretary/Treasurer for the Fire Chief Association, is a member of the Freestone CPS Board, has helped with the Big T Bash and Touch-A-Truck annual event; and the family attends Faith Fellowship Baptist Church of Fairfield where she ran the audio/video system.

“I loved my job and serving Freestone County,” Jeannie explains. “I will sincerely miss working alongside many great elected officials and employees, as well as the friends and members of this great community.”

The Treasurer position has not yet been filled.

According to Judge Grant, interested parties may submit a resume to her office at the Freestone County Courthouse to be considered for the Interim Treasurer position. Resumes will be accepted until Friday, August 9, 2024 at 4:00 p.m.
