“This building was made possible through the cooperation of the Freestone County Fair Association and the City of Fairfield,” reads the sign on the new show barn at the W.L. Moody Reunion Grounds in Fairfield. “We would like to thank the great contractors who have helped us extend the traditions of yesterday into the future by improving our facilities.”
Mayor Kenneth Hughes joined County Fair Association President Jody Bodine in cutting the ribbon to mark the occasion during the official opening day ceremony for the new facility on Monday, June 10, 2024.
The 2024 Freestone County Fair Association Board & Members include: Vice-President Todd Craig, Treasurer Brent Holmes, Secretary Michelle Welch, Board members Will Steen, Keith Brockman, Marla Lookabill, Clint Fryer, and Collin Puckett – Livestock Chairman; Rodeo Chairman Jay Welch, Steer Supt. Cody Gonzales, Swine Supt. Donna Day, Lamb Supt. Kai Lookabill, Goat Supt. Chandler Baggerly, Rabbits/Poultry Supt. Ross Mathison, Ag Mech Supt. Ed Strange (and Teague FFA), Ranch Rodeo – Don McLeod, Youth Rodeo – Tad Cannon, Home & Garden – Alyssa Steen. Past Board members attending were Tommy Robinson, Will McSwane, and Clint Minchew.
Also attending were AgriLife Extension Agent Erin Davis (4-H), Jerry Bonds (4-H), Clay Sherman (Fairfield FFA), Daniel Phillips (Fairfield FFA), volunteer Davin Davis, and Frank Bonner.
Representing the City of Fairfield: Council members James Tyus, Arland Thill, Bobby Nichols, Roger Keeton, and Angela Oglesbee, and City Secretary Misty Richardson.
And from the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce: Executive Director Brenda Pate, Director Mary Small, Secretary Robert McAdams, and Treasurer Gail Farish.
Contractors for the project included Shawn Ovalle of Hilltop Welding, Johnson Gutters, Moore Plumbing, 51 Oilfield Services, Efficient Insulation System, Crowell Farm & Land Services, Ezell Air Conditioning & Electrical.
All are welcome to come out during Fair Week to attend the Livestock Shows and Sale, and enjoy the new facilities.
