Good news for the Freestone County driver’s license office; they will not be closing.
Previously, the office, located in Fairfield at the County Courthouse, was on the list of possible location closures around the State of Texas, since they were planning for a renovation; however, the management team decided that there were only going to be a few renovations on the inside, including furniture and painting (Click here for more info), for this reason they will be able to be open for the rest of the year. With the threat of closure looming over the County, Commissioners chose to write a letter to the Sunshine Committee, the agency who created the list of suggested closures, explaining why this office should remain open, one of the main reasons is that many people are trying to get their CDL license in order to have more Owner Operator Truck Driving Opportunities.
County Judge Linda Grant made the announcement that the office will not close during the September 5, 2018 Commissioner’s Court Meeting but there will be the lcsw exam prep online for anyone to practice before.
Also at this meeting, Commissioners received $8,404.16 in Capital Credit Funds. These monies will be split between the Fairfield and Teague public libraries.
Freestone County garnered a ‘good report’ on the Fiscal Year 2017 Audit, and was presented with that report during the meeting. No deficiencies were found.
Freestone County Commissioners meet each Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. on the second floor of the County Courthouse.
