A local State of Disaster was declaring last week by Freestone County Judge Linda Grant, and later extended on Monday by a unanimous vote by the County Commissioners.

The disaster is declared due to the severe storms and flooding events experienced on April 26, 2024 and continuing thereafter.

According to the official declaration, unusually heavy rains and hazardous wind gusts caused widespread or severe damage, injury or loss of property because of flash flooding, river flooding, large hail, etc.

The first document was signed on Thursday, May 16, 2024 to continue for 7 days. The extension adopted on Monday, May 20, 2024 extends the Disaster Declaration to 90 days.

A state of disaster activates the Freestone County Emergency Management Plan; and can authorize the furnishing of aid and assistance under the declaration.

The County Judge has authorization to cancel the order when it is deemed necessary.
