The Girls team from Fairfield, along with individuals from Teague and Groesbeck, will advance to the UIL State Cross Country Championship Meet after qualifying during last week’s UIL Region III Cross Country Meet in Huntsville, Texas on Monday, October 22, 2018.
The top four teams and the top ten individuals, who are not on one of the qualifying teams, advance from each race to the State competition level.
This will be Fairfield’s eighth trip to State competition in nine years.
“The Fairfield girls won the Region 3 Cross-Country Meet yesterday with only 50 pts beating 2nd place Alvarado who had 78 pts,” says proud coach, Katie Wade.
High School athletes heading to State from Freestone and Limestone counties include the following:
Girls 2 Mile Run – 3A
(out of 162 runners)
–Lizette Aguilera of Teague, placing 7th overvall with a time of 12:38.6
–Willow Johnson of Groesbeck, placing 8th overall with a time of 12:39.8
Boys 5K Run – 3A
(out of 170 runners)
–Randy Canady of Groesbeck, placing 6th overall with a time of 17:38.7
–Damian Roman-Reyes of Groesbeck, placing 21st overall with a time of 18:20.6
Girls 2 Mile Run – 4A
(out of 168 runners)
Fairfield Team:
–Madison Smith, placing 2nd overall with a time of 12:26.8
–Jarahle Daniels, placing 3rd overall with a time of 12:29.2
–Morgan Coleman, placing 4th overall with a time of 12:29.8
–Ashlyn Partain, placing 24th overall with a time of 13:24.9
–Michelle Castillo, placing 25th overall with a time of 13:25.4
–Erica McQuinn, placing 30th overall with a time of 13:34.2
–Diana Castaneda, placing 70th overall with a time of 14:36.1
Coach Wade reports that the Fairfield Boys team placed 12th out of 24 teams that advanced to Region. Palestine Boys won the Region 3 Meet.
Individual places for Fairfield boys were: Joey Davis 47th, Hunter Noland 68th, Deandre Rosales 75th, Landen Espinoza 101st, Bryce Harrison 112th, Nick Salazar 142nd, Eddie Sanchez 154th. There were 174 runners.
The UIL State Cross Country Championship Meet will be held at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, Texas on Saturday, November 3, 2018.
