Honorary plaques, amazing Volunteer Fire Fighters, and monies were some of the main topics during the Wednesday, September 30, 2020 Freestone County Commissioners Court.
Sheriff Jeremy Shipley brought up an interesting fact to be verified, the late Mr. Hubert Reynolds might have implemented 911, and helped to create the entire system we have here.
If this proves to be fact, Shipley requested a possible plaque in his honor for what he has done for Freestone County.
Commissioner PCT. 3 Michael Daniels questioned about a line in the budget in which Freestone County gave Dew ISD, Fairfield ISD, Teague ISD and Wortham ISD their requested monies from the Cares Act.
Midway through the meeting, Commissioner PCT. 2 Thomas Craig Oakes made a point to tell the court and everyone in attendance that, “We had a fire very close to our county barn and I was very proud of all our county fire departments.”
Six of the counties Volunteer Fire Departments responded, with many firefighters and trucks on location.
Three motions were carried over how to use portions of the Coronavirus Relief Fund (CRF) Grant:
–Purchase equipment for the Fire Departments, such as the new washing machines and dryers plus bunker gear
–Purchase of a metal temperature detector for the Courthouse
–Installation and purchase of an entry access for the Courthouse, the Clerk’s office, Annex Three, the District Attorney’s office, Annex 2, and the Teague annex
–To request more funds for additional necessities throughout Freestone County to help slow and stop the spread of COVID-19
The court also entered into an interlocal agreement for Emergency Ambulance Service with the Teague Hospital District-EMS.
This agreement means Teague EMS will offer services to Freestone County, and in turn the County will pay the fees necessary.
Butler will be able to vote at the Shiloh Baptist church as well as have Senior Services there after a one year lease was agreed upon.
Additional topics covered were:
–The continuation of interlocal agreement for care of prisoners between Limestone County and Freestone County
–Trevor Hamilton was approved as Alternate Judge #12 Liberty for a two year term
–All participating pharmacies, clinics and hospitals agree to be part of the Indigent Mandate Provider and inmate healthcare agreement
