The Wortham Bulldogs trailed 21-0 midway through the second quarter and the Rosebud-Lott Cougars cruised to a 41-8 win over the Bulldogs in Travis on Friday night.

The Cougar defense held the Bulldog rushing attack to just over 100 yards and took advantage of three costly turnovers in the win, dropping the Bulldogs to 1-1 on the young season.

The Cougars took the ball first and running back Jamarquis Johnson ripped off a 41-yard run on the first play from scrimmage. He would finish the drive with a two-yard run to score the first touchdown of the game. The extra point failed and the Cougars led 6-0.

Wortham made a couple of first downs on their first possession with the running of Tanner Bean and the Bulldog offense crossed into Cougar territory. On second down from the Cougar 39, quarterback Ryken Lewis pass was intercepted by Moses Fox. Fox returned the pick 71 yards to the Wortham five-yard line. Johnson completed the one play drive with the five-yard run for the touchdown. Colby Coker ran in the conversion for the 14-0 lead midway through the first quarter.

The Wortham offense drove to the Rosebud-Lott 25-yard line and turned in over on downs and the Cougars took over. The Cougars drove 75 yards in 10 plays, and quarterback Zane Zeinart four of seven on the drive. Zeinart finished the drive with a six-yard run and the point after made the score 21-0.

The Bulldogs did not waste any time answering the score. On third down and eight from their 40, Lewis tossed a soft pass over the defense and into the arms of Bean and he raced the remainder of the way, completing the 60-yard touchdown. Bean ran in the conversion and the Bulldogs cut down to 21-8.

Rosebud-Lott took some time off the clock on the next possession to add points before the half. Coker scored on a six-yard run to finish a seven-play drive to extend the halftime lead to 28-8.

The Cougar defense added their first points of the second half off of a short drive. Johnson returned a punt 33 yards to the Wortham 17-yard line. The Cougars needed two plays and Zeinart threw a touchdown pass to Clayton Doskocil for the touchdown and the lead grew to 35-8.

The final touchdown came on the first play of the fourth quarter. Daniel Rodriguez scored on a three-yard run to cap off a 72-yard drive and the 41-8 score, which would be the final score.

Zeinart completed 19 of 34 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown to lead the offensive attack on the night.

Wortham stays on the road to renew their rivalry with the Dawson Bulldogs. Dawson lost a nail biter to the Leon Cougars 22-20 on Friday night and are 0-2 on the season.
