Ron Wright (R), Candidate for U. S. Congress, Speaks to NARFE

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter 1191 held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, 10 Jul 2018, at Ryan’s Buffet in Waxahachie. The guest speaker was Ron Wright, Republican candidate for the U. S. 6th Congressional District, who will face Jana Lynn Sanchez (D) in the general election on November 6.

The speaker, who lives in Arlington, talked about his background, most recently as tax assessor collector for seven years for Tarrant County, the third largest such office in Texas with 8 offices and around 200 employees. He previously was Chief of Staff for two and a half years and District Director for nine years for Cong. Joe Barton. He has been on the Arlington City Council for eight years and mayor pro tem for 4 years.

Wright discussed the fast changing, uncertain times in which we live, revenue and spending, along with implications for retirement programs for federal employees as well as Medicare, Medicaid and other programs. Additionally, the lack of agreement in Congress on how to deal with revenue and spending issues, as well as dealing with lobbyists and fund raising responsibilities were cited as further complications to resolution of the challenges at hand. An extensive question and answer session followed the very interesting presentation.

NARFE Chap. 1191 covers Ellis, Navarro and adjacent parts of the surrounding counties. Membership in NARFE is open to all active and retired federal employees and their spouses, former federal employees, and former spouses who are entitled to a federal survivor annuity.
